We were pretty happy with the overall presentation of the assignment I will leave the PowerPoint linked below.

One thing we wished we had done was have the videos in the middle of the presentation rather than the end just to keep people interested. I feel I personally also could have talked a little bit more about the videos. Another thing we think could have made the project better would be to have posted the videos onto YouTube and integrated the YouTubers Casey neistat and Sam kolder into the algorithm experiment that would have topped of the the presentation and given it a better flow.

I personally have a bit of experience with editing videos so when I saw that one of the tasks was to mimic a YouTubers style I wanted to give it a go so I decided I was going to impersonate my 2 favorite youtubers. Sam kolder and Casey Neistat . Not only do I enjoy watch both of these creators but they are both well know for their distinct style of production and editing so when it came to making the videos I was weary of the types of shots that were gonna be needed to match their editing style. The first video I made was a quick montage of myself cleaning to a bit of music. When I was shooting this video I knew it was supposed to be like Casey neistats so I intentionally recorded the clips at 24fps knowing I wasent going to be slowing anything down because Casey’s videos are all quick cuts showing him carrying out daily actions.

The second video was based on Sam molders type of videos which are a lot more cinematic b roll kind of films. I knew it was probably going to be hard so I used quite a few clips I had already filmed on my camera prior to the distribution of the assignment. A lot of the clips I used we filmed at 60fps and slowed down to 50%-75% speed. We did this because it’s easier to make things look cinematic when the clips been slowed down it takes a lot of distraction and sharp movements away from the video.

So after we put these 2 videos together we realized they couldn’t actually be published on YouTube because the song had a copyright problem so unfortunately we weren’t able to upload them. Then for the final part we made 2 slides to go alongside each of the videos before bringing them all together.

For this assignment we picked the heading of YouTube. I got myself into a group with Lateef and Cian and we quickly came together to decide on the tasks we wanted to complete and how we wanted the presentation to go. We split the presentation into 3 sections 1. History of youtube
2. How the YouTube algorithm works. And 3. Types and styles of YouTube videos.

The suggested tasks on intocdmonline were

“Parody video mimicking the style of a sub-genre of YouTubers
Learn how to set up a channel
Try different styles and cliches”

“Experiment with Youtube’s algorithms by creating multiple new accounts and tracking how Youtube’s recommendations shift based on those accounts’ viewing history and demographic profile
Monitor and critically examine the algorithms these suggestions and use screen-capture software to record these in action
Monitor and critically examine the ads you receive
Find a youtube community based on a hobby, fandom, or other affinity, and create a profile of that community that identifies key influencers, outliers, and events”

We decided to go with  trying different styles and cliches of YouTube videos and tracking the YouTube algorithm through different channels. Because they seemed fun and interesting to look into.

Assignment 3 video assignment pt 3

Filming the project.

On Friday me and denis traveld over to Mathews house in Blanchardstown to film the first scene in our skit. We used 3 different cameras and setups. The first was a canon m50 with a 18-55mm lens. We mounted this camera on a 3 axis gimbal which we used for the majority of the shots. The second camera was that Sony a7s II. We again used dan 18-55 mm lenses on this camera and for some shots we had it mounted on a steady cam we used this for some of the final shot of following the actor. And finally we used the Nikon d5300 with a 50 mm f1.8. We used this camera for close up shots of lightning matches and candles because it gave a nice bokeh effect and shallow depth of field. 

Mathew was our actor in this scene and to represent the time frame of the scene he dressed up in old fashioned clothes and we tried to cover up anything that pointed towards modern times whilst filming  in his kitchen.

Assignment 3 video assignment pt2


As a group we decided to Choose digital journalism. We decided to make a short film on how technology has made communication a lot easier. Here is the story board we put together.

Story board.
Temporary Title: Then and Now.

Scene 1. 

Shakey black and white title. Count In 3,2,1. Black and white.  Writing letter to a mate quilt pen and paper. Folding letter putting in envelop and wax seal. Posting letter in the letter box. Black screen 2 weeks later receiving letter opening and reading. Letter is about making plans with a friend.


Now. Opening unlocking phone. Send a text saying pints? Character 2 receives texts and replies with yeah M8.

End scene 

Scene 2
Making a phone call.

Then. Cycling down to a phone booth putting coins in and making a call. Emphasis on the journey down to the booth to kill some video time. Finnish call hop back on bike and cycle home.



Now. Open phone make a call or face time  to a mate real quick. Character 2 answers phone hangs up end scene.

Scene 3 sharing pictures. 

Then: character loads film into camera takes analog picture gets pictures developed. Shares physical copy with friends 

Now takes a picture on phone uploads to instagram.
Character 2 likes and comments.

End scene/ outro




Assignment 3 video assignment pt1

Mapping.

For our 3rd assignment I got in a group with Denis and Mathew. We all came together today to come look at the tasks and decide which task we were going to pick. We could not decide on one in the short time we were together so we narrowed it down to 3 and decided to go separately and research one of the topics and then present and to the group our idea before moving forward and decking on a final one.

I decided to research into the task on Mapping. The task that my eye was initially drawn to was to  “Create a map of significant locations in a novel, short story, or TV series that you know (for inspiration”
The novel I  to base my map proposal off was the book and movie series The Hunger Games. By Suzanne Collins. I picked this novel because anyone whose read the books will know that the map is fairly straight forward with 12/13 districts and the capital.

Making a map of the entire content of Panem is broad and finding specifics would be quite difficult so making a map of district 12 (pre bombing) where a lot of the books and films are set seems like a better option because it will be easier to find key points of interest such as the town hall.

It depends how the research goes after looking into it a bit more creating a map of the entire continent might be easier because each district is mentioned at least once.

Gifs 1



My first assignment of this class is under creativity and is under the topic of the art of the animated Gif.

There were a number of tasks to be carried out in this presentation. I was in a group with Rosie and Zoe. We sat down and all decided which topics we were gonna all gonna research and then put together in a power point. I am  going to research the history of gifs and put together a few slides.
We decided that later next week we were going to come together and complete one of the suggested task And use different softwares provided to us on the introdm.cdmonline.ie web to create Gifs of our own.
